Octane Booster Effect:
- January 18, 2006: I've continued to use the Outlaw octane booster in
every tank. I've been running at UTEC Stage 1 for a couple of months now. My air fuel ratios under full boost are in the upper 10s to lower 11s and I have experienced no knock whatsoever. Most of the credit probably goes to slow methodical tuning but the octane booster probably helps add some safety margin.
- July 5, 2005: I've had to fill up the last couple of times without the Outlaw
Octane Booster. It seems that the Sport Compact Car/European Car article made it quite popular locally and it was sold out at 5 different auto parts stores. I'll have to stock up when the next shipment comes in or purchase it online. I could use a different brand but want to reduce as many variables as possible.
- June 25, 2005: I performed a 2nd gear run and a 3rd gear run after
running with Outlaw octane booster in the tank for a week. Positive torque and horsepower gains can be seen in several parts of the mid RPM range. Based on these good results I will continue to add Outlaw octane booster and perform further runs to verify the effect. At some point I may also go back to running without octane booster to see if a power drop occurs.
- June 18, 2005: The first bottle of octane booster has been added to a full
tank of gas. I will perform several dyno runs when the tank is near empty and the ECU has had some time to adjust to the higher octane level.
- June 8, 2005: I've purchased a 16oz bottle of Outlaw (street legal) octane
booster. The July '05 issue of Sport Compact Car featured an article titled "Power In a Bottle" addressing the effect of commercial and home made octane boosters. SCC found both had a measurable effect on gasoline octane and that the commercial products were comparable in cost with the typical home brew consisting of Toluene. The article also mentions that going from 91 to 93 octane typically makes 10hp on a stock STI or EVO. The Outlaw octane booster raised octane levels 1.2 points from 91.2 to 92.4. I plan on testing the effect of the Outlaw octane booster on a stock 9-2X's power and torque. If a positive effect is observed I will continue to add the Outlaw octane booster with every tank of 91 octane, West Texas premium. The gas station I always fill up at is a Chevron station and I will perform the comparison test using Chevron gasoline. The addition of the first bottle of booster will have to wait several weeks since I plan on obtaining a series of baseline plots first.
